To eat or not to eat?

So why is it that my one year old will eat earwaxy ear plugs but he wants to spit out real food? Nasty!!!

Sick?

I thought we were better, but alas, Natalie said she had a headache, asked to go to bed early, and was out before I came in to tuck them in. Wow. I would say she's sick. Though I REALLY hope not. Please, please, please let her sleep it off! I am leaving this weekend and it will really put a cramp on the plans if someone is barfing!

Speaking of this weekend. I am going to a homeschool convention in Cincinnati and I am soooo excited! I cannot wait! I hope to learn a lot and come back very motivated. I probably already mentioned this convention, but oh well....that's how excited I am. Let's just hope I don't have to leave any sickies!

So sad.

I home with sick kids during the Easter family get-together. *Sigh* This seems to happen to us more often than not with family functions. Why is this??

Random Thoughts on A Gloomy Morning

I'm not gloomy, just the weather. Anyway:) So, I really tried to go back to bed after someone's potty stop at 6:40am, but it wasn't happening so here I am. Here are the things that I am thinking about:
  • Barf in the car. A few days ago, Sam barfed in the car (I knew I should have stayed at home!) and it was a job to clean it all up (especially the car seat cover...you have to Houdini to get those things on and off!). It was a one time episode, so yesterday we went to the park and then out to Dog N' Suds. On the way home, the baby just started barfing...in the car. Arg. So more cleanup. How do you clean the car and not have it smell VERY STRONGLY of chemicals for a long time? I don't know. But it's all clean now and I am praying for a barf-free Easter weekend. And my car really stinks.
  • Movies with the commentary on. I was watching Twilight last night with this on. It was totally lame! I love the movie, but every I see Kristin Stewart or Robert Pattinson talking in real life, I think they are so DUMB! She's very immature (she IS young I suppose) and he is completely self-deprecating which bothers me because my Edward character is perfect and does not need to make fun of himself because he exudes self-confidence. And the director just needs to act her age and say things that are interesting.
  • I want to make a homeschool blog. I want to record all of the successes of my homeschooling experience so I can read it when it is so hard.
  • I can't wait to see my parents! I bought tickets to fly to Utah and we are leaving on May 20th!! It should be an interesting vacation...4 kids on a plane, trying to work around my parents mission schedule and see everyone from FW that live out there. I can't wait!
  • The ward talent show is tonight...my family is singing the pi song. What? You don't know it? It's the first 50 digits of pi set to "One little, two little, three little indians." This is what happens when you marry a genius that is musical:)
  • I am going to a Homeschool Conference next weekend and I am thrilled! It's in Cincinnati so I get to see my sister and I will be kid-free from Thursday night to Saturday night and I will get to listen to people who really understand homeschooling...unlike me! I just hope I don't go crazy in the Exhibit hall! I don't suppose I should go into debt to homeschool my kids:)
  • George has a half-day today! Yippee!!!
  • All George's siblings will be here tomorrow. You know what this means for me (provided no one is barfing)? It means that I have childcare for 2 days. The oldest cousins always completely entertain and even carry around my kids. Yippee! I hope we are healthy!

Ok, is this random or what? I am sure I could think of more...but I will spare you! Have a wonderful Good Friday and Easter!

No time to read scriptures?

George here. So I've been in a habit of reading my scriptures in a half-conscious stupor at about midnight, for the last... well, longer than I'd like to calculate. Not the most effective method. It's not that there's no time to do it before then, I just don't think about it. So here's my latest tool:

http://george.s.jones.googlepages.com/readLDS.html

It picks a random chapter from the LDS scriptures (Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price) and sends you straight there. So that address above is my web browser's "home page". So if I'm about to read the news, or see who wants to be my friend of facebook, I open the browser, and there's the scriptures, open to some different spot every time.

I only have one thing to say this morning...

You know it's bad when you fold almost an entire basket of dirty laundry...I didn't even notice the huge food stains on almost every shirt, the crusty pants, and nasty smelling jammies. What was I thinking? Obviously, I wasn't.

Follow-up to the Easter faux pas

So, I think I am going to try and fix it. Is this sad?? I was so upset about it that I am going to try to play the "Mommy didn't know because she had never seen him" card. Ha. I can see Levi going for this. So Saturday morning, they will wake up to Easter baskets (which I kinda wanted to do anyway because I LOVED that growing up...I just don't think the Easter Bunny had anything to do with it). When they come and say, "Did you put that there?" I will say no, because technically George will. And if they ask George, he will say, "I didn't buy any of this stuff" because, technically, I will have bought everything. Do you think it will work? I know my kids aren't dumb, but I think that they are young enough that the magic will be better for them than the truth.

So, what do you think?? Will it work?? Should I even try it?? Or just chalk it up to a *SAD* lesson learned?

AI...did anyone ever see that movie?

My weekly American Idol blog post. Today, I loved Adam (of course...I LOVED the song Mad World, too), Allison, and Anoop. I liked Matt and Kris. Not a fan of Scott, Lil, or Danny (the arrangement mostly, I usually think he's good). My prediction is Scott's time is up. We'll see!

Beware...Spoilers

Yesterday the kids and I were sitting in the kitchen talking about our plans for the weekend which involve lots of family, eating, and an Easter egg hunt. Levi looks at me and asks, "Is the Easter Bunny real?"

Now I have issues with convincing my children to believe in something like the Easter bunny. Santa, I can almost rationalize with being sure to emphasize that we can be "Santas" for others. But the Easter Bunny? No, I really don't want this somewhat scary, large, VERY COMMERCIAL bunny taking over my very sacred Easter holiday!

So, this all runs through my head in about 1/2 a second and I just say, "No". Just like that. For some reason, I didn't think about what might happen. I figured, like me, they knew in their hearts that the bunny wasn't real. Maybe they were just pretending?? I don't think so. Both Levi and Nat acted SO SURPRISED that it surprised me and mad me SOO SAD. I had just ruined the magic and there was NO going back. I practically started crying! This led to a conversation about why adults lie to children...

Anyway, I totally regret spoiling my children's fun:( I wish I had been prepared with an answer. George says I should have asked them what THEY thought. That would have been good. I believe I should have faked a coughing attack and kept my thoughts to myself. *Sigh* If only....

Idol is getting better!

Megan Joy is gone...hallelujah! She made me very uncomfortable. She seemed so awkward on stage and her voice was just so strange. I wonder if Anoop will be next to go...he is kind of boring to watch. Eagerly awaiting next week:)
